The International Symposium on Computing in Informatics and Mathematics of 2013 hosted by Epoka University was an event which got us much information and satisfaction.
Many worldwide-known, reputable scientist as Peter van Emde Boas, Dervis Karaboga, Luigi Laura, Loukas Georgiadis and Silvio Pardi shared their knowledge, work and vision through keynotes and workshops. There were also many paper and poster sessions presenting new or optimized ideas.
The first day was filled with an opening ceremony with speeches from directive figures of Epoka University such as Ass. Prof. Dr. Oguz Altun, head of department of Computer Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin.
The first keynote instead was presented by Prof. Dr. Dervis Karaboga regarding ABC-Algorithm(Artificial Bee Colony) with swarm intelligence to be in its root. http://mf.erciyes.edu.tr/abc/publ.htm
After many paper sessions were held like “Primary School Interactive Learning Tool Based On Video Capture Virtual Reality”,“Enhancements in data redistribution strategies to increase efficiency of large data volumes in Scientific Clouds using FastScale”,“An Iris Recognition System Based on Angular Radial Partitioning and Statistical Texture Analysis with Sum & Difference Histogram”,“Prototype System for Multiple Sources Multiple Search Techniques Prediction (Algorithm and architecture)”,ect.
In the same day, Loukas Georgiadis opened the workshop “Graph Algorithms: Theory and Practice” that draw quite much interest. Later the poster session began with many interesting articles.
The second day began with an excellent speech from Prof. Dr. Peter van Emde Boas regarding the vEB Trees,a data structure which supports the full repertoire of instructions on a single dynamic subset. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Emde_Boas_tree
After, in the ISCIM’s second parallel session there were introduced some projects like: “SENOCLU, Energy Efficient Approach for Unsupervised Node Clustering in Sensor Networks”,“Software, Image and Audio Watermarking Algorithmic Techniques”, ect.
Following, there were presented subsequently other two workshops: PhD. Luigi Laura presented “Dealing with large and massive scale graphs or: my graph doesn’t fit in RAM!” which explained concepts of MapReduce/Hadoop,
The last workshop was regarding “European Grid Infrastructure and Grid Computing” hosted by PhD. Silvio Pardi.
Finally there was the awarding ceremony honoring various Keynote Speakers, and 3 best from Parallel and Poster Sessions.
The final day reserved a pleasant social activity involving partecipants to a trip to two of the most history-rich cities of Albania: Durres and Kruja.
